Yo! Wolves school holiday programme all set for May half-term
Wolverhampton’s Yo! May half-term programme gets underway next week, offering hundreds of activities and events for the city’s children and young people and their families during the school holiday.
Running throughout half-term, from Monday 29 May to Friday 2 June, all activities will be funded by the City of Wolverhampton Council’s #YES Fund and will include a meal.
The holiday activities are free for all children and young people of school age living in Wolverhampton and consist of sports, holiday camps, fun days out, dance and drama workshops, arts and crafts and much more. For full details and to book, please visit www.yowolves.co.uk.
The Yo! Wolves programme goes from strength to strength with the recent Easter programme, organised by the council and funded by the Department for Education (DfE), an even greater success than last year.
There were over 11,000 places available during Easter, delivered by 32 providers at nearly 50 locations across the city, on activities including fun days, sports and holiday clubs.
Yo!’s ‘Young Inspectors’ were also out in force, dropping in at many of the locations to speak to participants and find out what was working well and what they found particularly enjoyable. Highlights proved to include Grand Theatre workshops, Brazilian JuJitsu and activities organised by Positive Participation and The Way Youth Zone.
Meanwhile, over 550 children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) enjoyed a variety of events organised by charities such as Let Us Play, which provided a huge range of activities over the holidays for five to 19-year-olds with SEND.
Councillor Christopher Burden, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, said: “These participation figures for Easter are very pleasing and show that our Yo! Wolves school holiday programme continues to grow.
“May’s programme begins shortly and planning for the summer holidays is well underway to ensure we continue to provide activities and opportunities for a wide range of young people across the city.”
