Pupils show they are Game4Reading in inter-school quiz

Young bookworms demonstrated their love of reading by taking part in an inter-school quiz organised by the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Education Library Service.

For the first time in 15 years, the Game4Reading challenge was a digital-only affair – because of Covid-19 restrictions – with pupils in Years 5 and 6 from schools across the city going head-to-head.

Children had to answer a range of questions set by Senior Librarian Jane Coleman based on six books supplied by the Education Library Service.

And, after a hard-fought final, St Andrew’s CE Primary School were named the 2020 gold medallists, with Woodfield Primary School and West Park Primary School taking silver and bronze respectively. St Andrew’s will receive the Game4Reading trophy to keep for the next 12 months.

Councillor Stephen Simkins, Cabinet Member for City Economy, said: “It’s great to see that a love for reading remains strong in our city’s children and young people.

“Well done to everyone who took part in this year’s Game4Reading challenge, particularly those children from St Andrew’s CE, Woodfield and West Park primary schools who made it through to the final – and congratulations to the team from St Andrew’s on their victory.”

The Education Library Service is based at the Parkfield Centre and supplies a range of books and resources suitable for nursery age upwards to schools across Wolverhampton, the Black Country and Birmingham. Resources available include book sacks, class sets, topic boxes, plays and artefacts.
