Over 12,000 sign up for free physical activities with Yo! Active
More than 12,000 children and young people across Wolverhampton have now signed up to the free physical activity programme, Yo! Active – giving them the chance to take part in a wide range of opportunities across the city.
The City of Wolverhampton Council is partnering with Wolves Foundation to deliver Yo! Active, which is open to all Wolverhampton residents up to the age of 18, or 25 for care leavers or young adults with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).
The Foundation is providing free activities every week at the council's WV Active leisure centres, community centres and other locations around the city between now and 2026, while the Yo! Active programme also offers free swimming, gym sessions and court bookings for children and young people at WV Active.
More than 12,000 children and young people have now signed up, and others are urged to join them so they don’t miss out on the activities on offer - to see the weekly timetable, please visit https://www.wvactive.com/activities/yo-active-timetable.html.
To join Yo! Active, children and young people need a free WV Active account. This can be created online through the WV Active website, www.wvactive.com, by calling 01902 551010 or by visiting WV Active Aldersley, WV Active Bilston-Bert Williams or WV Active Central.
Councillor Jasbir Jaspal, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults and Wellbeing, said: “Since its launch in January, Yo! Active has inspired thousands of children and young people to take part in regular physical activities.
"Not only can becoming more physically active help improve heart health, build strong bones and muscles, control weight and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, but it's also a great way to make new friends.
"It’s fantastic that over 12,000 children and young people are now part of the Yo! Active revolution, and I'd encourage other youngsters, parents and guardians to check out what is on offer and sign up today!"
Meanwhile, Yo! Active members enjoyed a fantastic session with its Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu crew, with Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes and UFC star Jai Herbert among the special guests.
Joao, who is a blue belt in BJJ and one of Wolves' Brazilian contingent, came by to train, while Jai shared a few pro tips with the young participants.
